Try This On For Me

An interactive play about the absurdity, angst, and euphoria of trying to dress ourselves.
The audience is invited to find something in the salon that makes them feel more comfortable, legible, or desirable, and leave with something new to try.
LEE:
My personal rubric for the perfect outfit has three criteria:
One, it makes me feel comfortable—physically relaxed, confident, and safe; I can move freely in it; it feels good on my body.
Two, it makes me feel legible—like myself, authentic; it communicates to others some important aspect of who I am; it helps others understand and respect me.
Three, it makes me feel desirable—delicious to behold, sexy; a body that delights in itself, and that others delight in.
The audience is invited to try on anything in the space and bring something new to wear home with them.
Heels in large sizes, boots in small sizes, the salon was furnished with clothes and accessories from thrift store dives, specialty orders, and a community clothing drive.
Or anything an audience member might choose to leave behind…
Your body is a utopia.
